Aloha Friday: June Edition - Koaliʻawa
Happy belated aloha friday! If you would like to watch this drawn live, head on over to our instagram to check it out and donʻt forget to tag us if youʻre inspired to draw your own version.
I’d like to start this off with a disclaimer - this is not endemic to Hawai’i. I was completely shocked to find out that this is actually a cousin to our Native Pohuehue and it is one of the two species of morning glory native to Kure Atoll.
This just goes to show, it’s never safe to assume. Just because the name is Hawaiian - does not make it Hawaiian.
Continuing our aloha friday series, here is the wall paper weʻve created for the month of June! Last month, we drew puakenikeni and we included a desktop version as well. We decided to do away with it because it seems that mobile is everyones go to!!! Each last aloha friday of the month, we will have a brand new wallpaper with multiple options to beautify your screen. Be sure to follow us for updates and resources.
Inspired by summer, we decided to draw a flower that is resilient and stands up to mother nature: Koaliʻawa. Iʻve seen it crawling along the beachline on the west side of Oʻahu, and it truly is amazing to me how a flower of this nature still looks so pristine despite having to face wind, water, sun, and even sand.
Feel free to download multiple versions in both ‘Ōlelo Hawaiʻi and in English. You may also select a non-calendar option as well.
For our Patrons, we have also created digital paper. Head on over to our Patreon to see the different tiers we have to give our hui an opportunity to support our work.
Happy aloha friday!
